Standards: • We’d like you to design 4—8 stamps in total and up to two hand stamps. • We’d prefer you to use one of the standard stamp cutter guides as supplied with this brief. We’re open to unusual or bespoke cutter guides, but you’ll need to justify the extra expense with a great rationale. • In addition to the stamp cutter guides, we’ve also supplied general measurements for the hand stamps. • We’re open to special print finishes, such as special perforations, gloss varnishes, spot colours, UV colours and so on. As with our note on cutter guides, your concept needs to be able to justify the expense of these extra special print details. • The stamps must include all statutory elements: the Kings head and the value. Please ensure that your design solution allows enough space to keep these elements clear and legible. • The hand stamps are produced as rubber stamps, so need to work in one colour and need to avoid detail that is too fine or complex. • We’d like to see lots of choice in your first design presentation: without choice, it’s more difficult to discuss the work, provide feedback and distil down to a great single solution. • A project like this is all about research: if you spend two weeks on your initial design ideas, a week of that time will be well-spent in researching your chosen subject. • A stamp project requires you to think about design on a micro scale. How can you simplify your design approach, so that the stamps are clear, concise and visually dynamic? This doesn’t mean that they can’t be detailed. Detail is fine, as long as it’s clear and easy to read visually.
